Being a critical thinker – how debate bridges subjective perspectives and value judgements

Overview

Debating teaches the art of articulating your disagreements constructively and respectfully. Especially in the age of information overload, it’s incredibly easy to vilify someone who holds a different political view or personal philosophy. Through debating, we develop the ability to challenge our preconceptions and appreciate value systems that may very well vary from our own.

This session will provide an overview of competitive debating and introduce key skills needed for engaging and meaningful discussions around contentious issues. The participants will be expected to participate in mini spars and discussions with one another. (This forum will be conducted in English.)
