The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University, in collaboration with Kyushu University (Japan) and the University of Illinois (USA), will host a trilateral academic workshop “From Manuscript to Modernity: The Afterlives and Otherlives of Pre-modern Literature” on Thursday, November 6, in Room B208, Humanities Building, National Taiwan University.

We are honored to welcome Prof. Britton Elliott Brooks from Kyushu University and Prof. Eleonora Stoppino from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne to Taiwan. Together, we will explore the connections between the Old English poem The Battle of Maldon and the contemporary experimental novel The Wake, as well as the intertextual relationship between the medieval Italian classic The Decameron and the modern novella “Impatient Griselda.”

The workshop will feature morning and afternoon sessions, which participants may register for separately or attend as a full-day event. Reading materials will be distributed in advance to facilitate discussion. For more information, please refer to the attached poster and register via the QR code or the following link: https://forms.gle/9ubjh1uzjx3BTuTf6.

Scholars and graduate students are cordially invited to register for this event. We look forward to fostering a warm and intellectually stimulating atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas, inspires creativity, and opens new avenues for dialogue between medieval literature and its modern reinterpretations.
