Leave of Absence, Absenteeism, Grade Point Deduction

1. The four types of leave of absence include (1)sick leave, (2)personal leave, (3)official

leave and (4)maternity leave.

2. Students who wish to take a sick leave due to illness shall ask for leave from the

professors on the day of leave and submit the application for leave to the Student

Assistance Division within three days. Those who take the sick leave longer than three days must present the supporting documents issued by the hospital or clinic to the professors of the courses during the leave and obtain permission from the chairperson of their department/institute. Those who take the sick leave longer than fifteen days must obtain permission from the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs.

3. Students who want to take a personal leave due to serious accident shall ask for leave to the professors and submit the application for leave to the Student Assistance Division in advance. Those who take personal leave for a period longer than three days must present the supporting documents to the professors of the courses during the leave and obtain permission from the chairperson of their department/institute. Those who take the personal leave for longer than fifteen days must obtain permission from the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs.

4. Students who wish to take a maternity leave shall ask for leave from the chairperson of their department/institute and submit the application for leave and the proving document issued by the hospital or clinic to the Student Assistance Division. Those who take the maternity leave longer than fifteen days must obtain permission from the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs.

5. Students with any one of the following situation could take an official leave and shall ask for leave from the professors and submit the application for leave to the Student Assistance Division. Those who take the leave longer than three days must obtain permission from the chairperson of their department/institute. Those who take the leave longer than fifteen days must obtain permission from Dean of the Office of Student Affairs:

(1) Participating in international events and with supporting documents from the
government or related organizations.

(2) Participating in outside-school events on behalf of the university and with supporting documents from the related organizations.

(3) Participating in university's public affairs and with the supporting documents issued by the department's director or upwards who ask you for help.

6. Students who are unable to apply for leave in person may first inform their department/institute via phone call, letter or through a third person, and finish the rest of the application procedure within two weeks.

7. Students unable to attend classes should apply for leave according to the regulation stipulated by the Office of Student Affairs.

8. Unattendance or absenteeism without approval shall be considered as absenteeism. One hour of unattended class is considered 5 hours of leave of absence.

9. If the number of hours of leave of absence in the course of a semester is one-fifth of the total number of class hours, the grade of that particular course will be deducted by one level of letter grades. If the number of hours of leave of absence is one-fourth of the total, the grade of that particular course will be deducted by two level of letter grades. If the number of hours of leave of absence in the course of a semester is one-third of the total class hours, the grade of that particular course will be considered X grade.

 10. Students with approval of official or maternity leave do not apply to Article No.9.
