• 碩士班 MA Program：

本所得視論文寫作需要，為學生開設「專題研究」（1學分）。選修「專題研究」之學生須徵得碩士論文指導老師同意，並依下列期限將「專題研究課程計畫綱要」送交所長批准後始得修讀。第一學期繳交期限為7月31日，第二學期為12月31日。每一學生在全部修業期間只能選修一次。

Considering the actual needs of students, the department may offer independent study courses (1 credit) for students. In order to enroll in an independent study course, students must seek the agreement of the thesis advisor and an individual professor, and submit the independent study course syllabus to the department chair for approval before the application deadline. Each student may take an independent study course only once during the entire course of study. Application deadlines for the independent study course are July 31 for the first term, and December 31 for the second term.

• 博士班 PhD Program：

選修科目：課號為D(或M)之課程，其中得有「專題研究」課程(一門課一學分，至多三門)與外所課程(含依校際選課辦法所修習之課程，至多9學分)；專題研究與外所課程合計不得超過12學分。選修專題研究之學生須徵得博士論文指導教授及授課教授同意，並於〈專題研究課程計畫綱要〉上簽名後，依下列期限將綱要送交所長批准後始得修讀。第一學期繳交期限為7月31日，第二學期為12月31日。

Elective Courses: these are courses with codes beginning with ‘D’ or ‘M,’ including independent study courses (3 credits / 3 courses maximum) and extra-departmental courses (9 credits maximum). The total number of independent study courses and courses taken from other departments may not exceed 12 credits. In order to enroll in an independent study course, students must seek the agreement of the dissertation supervisor(s) and the instructor, who must sign the independent study course syllabus and submit it to the department chair for approval before the application deadline. Application deadlines for the independent study course are July 31 for the first term, and December 31 for the second term.
